What is ProlapLase®?

The gentle Fotona SMOOTH® technology can also be used to treat pelvic organ prolapse. Special patented laser pulses are delivered through the vagina to the problematic prolapsed areas and to the whole surface of the vagina. The results of the ProlapLase® procedure are a strengthening of the tissue and a decrease in prolapse stage. Regular ProlapLase® treatments can help to delay or even avoid more invasive procedures for pelvic organ prolapse treatment and significantly improve the quality of life in patients that choose not to have surgery. It has proven to be a safe and non-invasive alternative to traditional methods. Although it works best for lower prolapse grades, good results have been shown also for higher grade prolapse.

How does ProlapLase® work?

Unique advantages of ProlapLase® for your patients

Depending on the severity of the prolapse, between 3 to 5 sessions of ProlapLase® with a one-month interval were sufficient to achieve significant improvement. No special pre-op preparations or post-op precautions are necessary. Patients can immediately return to their normal everyday activities. Additional advantages of ProlapLase® are that the procedure is incisionless and virtually painless, with no ablation, cutting, bleeding, or sutures. Recovery is extremely quick without need for the use of analgesics or antibiotics.

The effect of ProlapLase® therapy on the improvement of the POP grade of cystocele.

95% of the patients showed a reduction of at least one grade, 85% of which had achieved grade 0 or I, and 15% achieved grade II. 90% of the patients were very satisfied or satisfied with the treatment. »The effects of ProlapLase® on the initial steps of POP are really encouraging, mainly when we are dealing with a defect of the anterior vaginal wall, the cystoceles. Can the ProlapLase® treatment be performed in cases of severe pelvic organ prolapse?

Yes, we can expect some degree of improvement in most cases, which may postpone the need for a surgical procedure. In many severe cases, surgery is the only option.

How do the Fotona SMOOTH® procedures differ from other, similar laser procedures in gynecology?

All Fotona SMOOTH® treatments are based on a patented mode of Er:YAG laser pulses that are delivered to the vaginal wall mucosa, generating controlled and optimal distribution of heat within the tissue and enabling collagen remodeling and neocollagenesis.

The 2.94 μm wavelength, in conjunction with the patented Fotona SMOOTH® mode delivery, allows for a highly controlled, safe procedure with no impact to any critical structures, including any penetration or disruption of the mucosal surface. That makes the procedures gentle and safe, without compromising effectiveness.

Who can perform the treatments?

GenerGenerally, treatments are performed by OB/GYN specialists, although in some countries other specialists can also perform the treatment. We recommend that in such cases, the treatments should be done in close collaboration with a patient gynecologist, in order to obtain the required pre-treatment information.

Do doctors require any specific qualifications apart from the training to perform the treatment?

No, although the question of who can perform the treatment depends on the regulations of the country.
